1) page 3, line 27: replace ‘excess phosphorus and nitrogen’ by ‘excess dissolved inorganic phosphorus and nitrogen’

2) page 4, line 3: replace ‘contain’ by ‘contains’

3) page 6, line 25: as the only ‘real’ HNLC station during KEOPS1 is C11, please replace ‘25 Stations B11, C3 and C11 were in HNLC waters off the Kerguelen plateau and the latter was sampled twice (Table 1).’ by ‘Station C11 was in HNLC waters off the Kerguelen plateau and was sampled twice (Table 1). Stations B11 and C3 were in different environments with relatively low chl a contents and will also be considered as representative of HNLC conditions in this study.’

4) page 7, line 13: replace ‘Abundances were calculated by the used flow rate.’ by ‘Abundances were calculated by using the flow rate measurements.’

5) page 8, line 3: ‘−1’ exponent

6) page 8, line7: There is no mention to the protocole for induced viral production in the Mat & Meth section. The equation should be given somewhere, probably between line 4 and 6, page 9.

7) page 8, line 23: ‘VP’ should be ‘VPl’

8) page 12, line 1: the second sentence is not clear especially when discussing about ‘…virus-free water and bacterial concentrate and adding back…’; please rephrase.

9) page 12/line 11, page 14/lines 23,24,26: BS numbers should be given in units ‘virus−like particles per bacterial cell’

10) page 12, line 12: ‘a’ of ‘chlorophyll a’ should be in italic.

11) page 14, line 13: replace ‘with’ by ‘within’

12) page 15, line 3: year is missing in the reference ‘Steward et al.’

13) page 15, line 12: replace ‘the late bloom’ (confusing) by ‘the late bloom stage’.

14) page 15, line 15: replace ‘were’ by ‘was’

15) page 16, line 2: delete ‘heterotrophic’ before ‘HNF’

16) page 16, line 24: I do not understand the sentence part ‘…e.g. in deep sea where host abundance was low and lysogeny was highest in an across system study…’; please rephrase.

Page 18, line 11 (page 16, line 24 in the previous version): I wrote you I did not understand the sentence part ‘…e.g. in deep sea where host abundance was low and lysogeny was highest in an across system study…’ and asked for rephrasing. You didn’t rephrase it.
